The Return of Even More Movies You’ve Watched This Week III

I watched about a half of “The Smashing Machine” last night. I really liked what I saw. There were many great small details that sucked me in! Kerr’s voice inflection, Paul Varelens’ fighting stance, Mark Coleman’s EZ chair, even Sakuraba’s orange shorts. Some scenes/conversations were taken directly from the OG Smashing Machine documentary that I saw once like 20 years ago. Or news stories or just general perception of MMA around ’98-2000. It really took me back! I’m excited to finish it up

    The 1-Rep Muscle Building Journal

Tuesday I haven’t performed 1-arm barbell overhead press for sometime. This was mostly from the hip/glute issue I was having along with for several months I rushed a set of pushups for high reps (this was before I really changed to more strict form on everything) and my already tendonitis issue seemed move into my trap area, shit has been fricked up there for months. But everything seems to be better, I’m thinking it’s due to the stricter form actually strengthening the muscles and connective tissues. Decided to try -

Raven78’s on the set of the Living Dead

BJJ 14.10.2026 (6am morning session) -Coach used content in a seminar some of the guys got to, on head low entries but using hips not head re pressure once inside. So worked attack and defence on that. -just a single solid calm roll with N after. Nice controlled takedown after a collar tie to arm drag to back take. Spent some time in SX just focusing on staying there. Similar later in roll in SC. Escaped SC getting to half guard, nice sweep too. Generally dominated and kept calm the whole way.

    Bulldog: Getting “Old Bastard Strong”

Zercher Squats: 3 x 5 Leverage Squat:* 30 / 3 TR 37… Added another 100lbs to these and went ape shit. GHR: 3 x 8… Still pissed I need to do these assisted with a light stretch band. Keeping the eccentric slow and controlled. Straight Leg Sit Ups on GHR: 4 x 10… Going to start adding weight to these. *Okay, a correction on my part. I’ve been calling my contraption a pendulum squat when technically it’s a leverage squat. Similar idea, different mechanics.

Semi-new Lifter Figuring out how to Make a program

Pick your progression rule before you pick exercises. That’s the part most home-made programs are missing. Something like: when you hit the top of your rep range on a main lift, add 5 lbs next week and work back up. Keep main lifts in the 5-8 range, accessories in the 8-12 range, and don’t add more sets or exercises until the weights stop moving. As a wrestler in the offseason, 1-2 hard conditioning days keeps the gas tank full without wrecking recovery. Also track every workout. Inconsistent l

Gym Etiquette - Has it Changed?

I’m nearly 60 years old, so I realize that this may sound like the typical grumbling of someone my age, but I wonder if gym etiquette is a bit different now. I train at a typical big box commercial gym - it has everything and attracts a wide range of people demographically. I’ve noticed that younger people (for the purposes of this forum, say someone 30 and under), have a strange way of claiming the equipment that they’re using. For example, if someone is using a squat rack, a bench or any pi

    GLP-1 Experience

Sorry for my slow reply - lots of travel with much more to come. I eat about 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight, so about 230g or so. I also take creatine, fiber, magnesium, zinc, and vitamin D3. Things are still in a positive place for me. Due to travel, I don’t have any new official data, but I am continuing to feel great and workouts are consistent. Mostly, I’ve been working on range of motion and form as my body moves differently without the extra 50 pounds.
