The Return of Even More Movies You’ve Watched This Week III

I watched about a half of “The Smashing Machine” last night. I really liked what I saw. There were many great small details that sucked me in! Kerr’s voice inflection, Paul Varelens’ fighting stance, Mark Coleman’s EZ chair, even Sakuraba’s orange shorts. Some scenes/conversations were taken directly from the OG Smashing Machine documentary that I saw once like 20 years ago. Or news stories or just general perception of MMA around ’98-2000. It really took me back! I’m excited to finish it up

    What’s your morning routine?

Honestly, my morning routine isn’t anything special I usually check my phone as soon as I wake up and end up scrolling through TikTok way longer than I planned. Then I realize I need to get up, make some coffee, and actually start my day. I try to wake up earlier when I have things to do, but sometimes those extra 15 minutes in bed turn into half an hour. I guess I’m still working on building better habits. Anyone else gets stuck scrolling first thing in the morning? 😀

I tried your huge max reps set on HS IL SP. Only got 30 reps but that is probably decent for a mere mortal like me. Still no clue how you’re repping out 40 for multiple sets.

    SST (Simplest Strength Training)

Yeah, you could, but honestly SST is kind of designed as a self-contained 3-week cycle, so running it “as written” is basically the same thing. The leader/anchor setup works best when the supplemental stays the same all cycle and the waves do the talking — with SST the supplemental changes every week anyway, so plugging it into 2/2/2 doesn’t really buy you anything extra. One approach people take: run something with steady supplemental like BBB or FSL for the leaders, then use SST as the anchor. Either way it’d work fine.

Semi-new Lifter Figuring out how to Make a program

Pick your progression rule before you pick exercises. That’s the part most home-made programs are missing. Something like: when you hit the top of your rep range on a main lift, add 5 lbs next week and work back up. Keep main lifts in the 5-8 range, accessories in the 8-12 range, and don’t add more sets or exercises until the weights stop moving. As a wrestler in the offseason, 1-2 hard conditioning days keeps the gas tank full without wrecking recovery. Also track every workout. Inconsistent l

9 October 2026 Squat 265 x 5 Finally figured out why I wasn’t reaching depth. If anything really good came out of this back tweak, I brought out my bar which has been stuck at home and started doing squats with just the bar at home. I used to squat with pretty flared out feet, like 45 degrees. Lately they’ve been closer to 30 degres which is probably what was limiting my depth after all those ankle sprains and basically just my anatomy. I took a video of this 265 x 5 and depth is back to what it was before, powerlifting legal.

    Calvert and Milo Barbell

In the event that my analysis seems excessive, here’s the stuff cyclists do… I’m not even scratching the surface. And I’m ok with that. That said, I think the lifting world could use a bit more analysis. Not a lot more, but just a bit more beyond “this program worked for me, that one didn’t”. A bit more understanding of why.

I don’t think I have ever been described better. Got home to find my truck, which had been in a park and fly, had been broken into and my golf clubs had been stolen, along with a compressor and tire chains. Oh well. The clubs were twenty eight years old, but I loved them dearly. A set of Cobra blades with True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts, S300’s. Probably too stiff for me at 63 years old, but they were my clubs. I have been thinking about upgrading my ride and I think this is a sign. I have a

Now I’m coming up on 3 years sober which I’m super proud of. Counselors and meetings didn’t really help me, I just didn’t like Brandon that drinks so I stopped. So my experience might not be exactly like yours, but I’ll happily chat about it if you ever want to.

It isn’t weird when you understand that socialists have been saying that we’ve been in “late-stage capitalism” for the last century, along with their penchant for making stuff up about society and treating it as scientific fact. AI combined with robotics could end up producing a level of material abundance that vast and generous social programs become a possibility, but that remains to be seen. There will still be some level of conflict between the various visions for society, and there always

I’m playing the NES version, whereas it sounds like you might have an updated version, because Monk was the newer translation for the Black Belt. I just beat the pirate to get access to the ship. The NES version in particular is a trip, because it wasn’t programmed correctly, haha. Some stats that should matter don’t, some items don’t function they way they’re supposed to, etc. It was SO ambitious.

I am only like 5 hours deep, just started playing last week on my lunch breaks. Warrior/monk/red mage/black mage. It took me a minute to grasp the battle system because I am used to really simple “water beats fire, bird beats bug” style mechanics, whereas this game is more about deciding which enemies to attack first, managing your magic points, etc.

When I use “Power Building” routines, the main lift is the Focus of the workout. And usually that lift is done for a bunch of high quality sets, Avoiding failure. And focusing on the way the bar moves, not necessarily on the Muscles involved in the lift. And the assistance exercises are though of as Less Important. Like they’re almost an after thought and not pushed really intensley.

I also like the idea of being able to adjust your training days depending on your schedule instead of forcing yourself to stick to a strict routine. Do you feel like you make similar progress with 3 days a week compared to 4?

I woke up this morning at 4:30 AM and wee’d urine with blood in it. But I also noticed an object drop right to the bottom of the bowl. That had my attention. Then a wee or two later (still red) another item went straight to the bowl bottom. This has happened before over the years, and it still gets my snaps my head around. I think I was dehydrated on and off lately and passed a couple of bladder stones. By 7:00 AM everything was clear. I have had some side back pain it could have been small kidney stones working their way through as well.

I cured myself by upping my portion sizes in every meal, and got up to 80 kg within the first few years of training. Force feeding myself got me up to 90+ kg around my third year. Further torturing myself I topped off in the high 90s after four or five years of training. The train
