Hot take: Root is not as complicated as people make it out to be
I was worried about buying this game due to how complicated everyone made it sound. But Ive loved the theme and artwork for a while, and asymmetrical games are right up my alley. For context, before I bought root, the most complex game on my shelf was ticket to ride. But I convinced myself it wasn't as bad as it seems. So I got a copy, watched a few videos, got 2 friends (both young, neither have played a game harder than catan) and played a game of root.
First play of Lost Ruins of Arnak last night
We had a 3P games, we all learn and teach as we went. Initially we were turned off with the setup of the game cuz figuring out where all these little pieces went, took some time(that first page diagram does help a lot). But once we started playing and understood the 'one main action per turn' and next person goes, and repeat until no more moves, then things kinda clicked.
