  Communities and Their Quests

  Few readers of Modern Age will be unfamiliar with Robert Nisbet, known most widely for his seminal 1953 book The Quest for Community. But equally few are likely to have read what Luke C. Sheahan calls Nisbet’s “most thorough and philosophically adept account of his understanding of community.” That would be The Social Philosophers, originally published in 1973 and now brought back into print by the American Philosophical Society Press and Sheahan (a professor of political science at Duquesne University and the editor of The University Bookman).
