These Nevada Backroads Lead to a Forgotten Town

I’d been to Comet Mine before, but I hadn’t seen everything they left behind. This time, Luna and I take the Jeep and trailer into Nevada’s mining country for a closer look—and find a rocky descent that has me getting out to walk the trail first. From lakeside camping at Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge to the old machinery at Comet Mine and the Bristol Well charcoal kilns, there’s plenty to explore out here. After finding a quiet place to camp, I try out AGM night vision goggles and thermal binoculars to see what’s around us after dark. We also spend some time walking through Pioche, Nevada. Its Wild West history is fascinating, but the historic buildings, hillside views, and small-town character make it worth slowing down and looking around. A visit to Boot Hill Cemetery and the old aerial ore tramway adds a little more perspective to the stories this town has to tell. Thanks for riding along with Luna and me! Have you explored this part of Nevada? Let me know what you enjoyed or where I should stop next.
