Rereading my past favourites is a very disappointing experience
I've been reading scifi/fantasy for almost 40 years. Lately, I've been rereading some of my early favourites. The experience is almost invariably disappointing. This made me doubt my recommendations to people over the years. Is this feeling common? Should I even bother rereading stuff or just keep the fond (partial) memories of the first reading? How do other people handle rereading?
What are the differences between Bradbury's Dark Carnival and The October Country books?
From what I've read, dark carnival was published first and has 27 stories in it, while October Country was published few years later and contains 15 of those stories and plus 4 others. Now that part is clear, but I've also read that those 15 stories in October Country are actually revised/rewritten, so they are not the original versions. Has anyone actually read them both and can explain to what extent where they rewritten? And which version do you prefer? submitted by /u/tcorgat [link] [comments]
