One last gasp
One last gasp by Andrew c. Piazza Absolutely fantastic cosmic horror. It was smooth as silk to read. You don’t need a dictionary next to you to look up every third word like typical h.p lovecraft style cosmic horror. The story itself is a mix of WW2/hunted house/ cosmic horror. It’s blends so well. Absolutely a page turner. Doesn’t let up from start to finish. submitted by /u/samsmithtrys69 [link] [comments]
My review about Children of Time book
Rating: 4.25/5 Finished Children of Time last night, and it was a really good read, although not quite what I was expecting. What I loved most was the storytelling. Watching the spiders evolve physically, intellectually, and socially over generations was fascinating. Seeing how their society developed little by little, with each generation building upon the achievements of the previous one, was probably the most unique aspect of the book for me. I haven't come across anything quite like it in sci-fi before.
Every aspect of a different social life can't be oppression when you chose to marry into a different kind of family
I may be a minority in this, but it irks me in a weird way when the female protagonist marries a very rich, high-society kind of man, and then, obviously, there are a lot of problems, but one of the narratives is about learning table manners, knowing where the forks go, what the different spoons are for, and being told to talk a little less loudly. Like, somehow, all these etiquettes are shown as attempts to change her personality.

Peck & Peck by Bonnie Garmus review – the zany follow-up to Lessons in Chemistry
This offbeat tale of machinations at an eccentric poetry magazine in 80s New York is laugh-out-loud funny – and a paean to the power of poetry
Chill or slight thrill biker romances?
Haven’t read any biker romances and i’d like to give them a try :) i’d prefer something that feels a little more down to earth/grounded; well rounded characters, gradual relationship development as opposed to insta lust (please, i hate this). ideal fmc would be average/romantically inexperienced, quiet, independent thinker i’m ok with some dark content but less is more 👍🏼 submitted by /u/ybutton [link] [comments]

"Fun" Horror a la A Night in the Lonesome October?
To the many folks I've seen recommending this book on all the Spooky Season posts: a sincere thank you. I'm about 40% through and having a delightful time. I'm not reading it by day as it is feeding the ADHD Dopamine Machine (and I want to finish it and return it to the library before my trip out of state on the 18th). But I'd love more. It's fun, I'm having the time of my life. I love the POV. The tie-ins. The mystery element is wonderful too. So, any suggestions? Thanks in advance? submitted by /u/No_Interview9192 [link] [comments]

Rethinking Biblical Inerrancy: PW Talks with Jason A. Hentschel
In Desiring Certainty (Eerdmans, out now), theologian and pastor traces how, in the past century, evangelicals doubled down on the belief that the Bible is free from error—a development he believes has closed off conversation and sown division.
Historical fiction novels based on real people/events
I just read The Help, Miss Spitfire, and The Book Thief, which I really enjoyed because of their connections to real history but in a fictional context. What are some other books like these that tell great stories but in a way that doesn’t feel like I’m reading nonfiction? I could never get into nonfiction, biographies, or autobiographies, but for some reason I really like historical fiction. submitted by /u/LauraBarwickArt [link] [comments]
Japan book recommendations
Hi! I’m travelling to Japan soon and as part of my travel souvenirs, I like purchasing a book from the country i visit where the author is also from and ideally the story is also set there. It’s just a fun way to remember where i visited and hopefully discover a new author, culture, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations of English translation books by Japanese authors I can purchase in Tokyo(or Kyoto or Osaka)? Bonus points for a cool bookstore recommendation too. Perhaps something a bit under the radar.
Let’s do some polls!
I believe that we can’t post polls in this sub but let me know if that’s not correct. Anyway, I’m an AVID romance reader with strong views in what I like. However, I see lots of posts on here of people that like basically the opposite of me which I find fascinating. How dare people have different taste to me lol! Anyway, what do you prefer? Single POV or Dual POV? [I prefer dual. My favourite dynamic is down bad MMC and oblivious FMC] Contemporary Romance v Historical Romance? [I prefer contemporary.
