South Dakota farmer reports below-average soybean yields after dry growing season

A farmer in southeast South Dakota says he’s been harvesting below average soybeans. Matt Bainbridge says the dry growing season didn’t help with pod fill. “We’ve got yields quite a bit below average here,” he says. “Probably two-thirds or three-quarters of actual production history the way it looks on soybeans. Corn is going to be

Missouri farm finances could improve in 2026 despite low farmer sentiment

An extension ag economist says Missouri’s farm financial picture for 2026 could be better than farmer sentiment suggests. “We got farmer bridge assistance program payments at the beginning of the year, crop prices rallied and many operations had already bought some of their inputs before the runup in costs this spring, and yields were good

Record farm program payments are raising questions about the effectiveness of the federal farm safety net. In the latest Inside D.C., Brad Lubben with the University of Nebraska–Lincoln says stronger payments, due in part to an increase in reference prices, won’t necessarily address the underlying financial challenges facing farmers. “The margins are just as tight

Wind and Solar Leases in Foreign-Held U.S. Agricultural Land

Bruce Sherrick and Juo-Han Tsay - Most long-term leases held by foreign persons are for wind and solar projects, covering 6.3 million acres, or about 0.7 percent of U.S. land in farms. In most counties the share is under 1 percent, and nearly all of these acres are associated with investors from Canada and Western Europe. Because the landowner retains title and AFIDA reports acreage as a whole parcel, lease acres are best viewed separately from ownership when assessing foreign holdings of U.S. agricultural land.

    My Own Firehall

One garage is full of tractors and atv's, so had to build a new home for my old Ford fire truck. Contractors did a great job. Was a busy summer. Never even got any of the antique tractors out to shows or parades this summer. Had the new garage built, renovated the house and finally had a transfer switch installed to power the house with my generator. No more running numerous extension cords! LOL What a great feeling to have everything the way I want it before I retire.
