The Mom God Isn’t Calling You to Be
“I’m so sorry I’m late.” As my son climbed into our minivan, my apology felt weak. I had misjudged the time — again. I didn’t leave any margin as I hurried to finish a project at home, so when another child needed care, the situation delayed me from picking up my waiting son. Then I hit extra traffic en route. Mom guilt weighed heavily on me as I realized running late was a pattern for me, even though it’s one I had hoped to avoid as a parent.
Best Westminster Confession of Faith commentary?
Looking for a thorough, clear and basic commentary on the WCF. Besides RC Sproul’s , which other ones would you recommend?
The Psalms Project
Good morning, does anyone listen to The Psalms Project on Spotify? I recently found it and have liked it so far, but I am completely new to having the Psalms put into a musical score and don't know what is considered acceptable. I put this in the music forum because I don't use this for worship, just general listening. Below is a link to the artist page.
Become member in OPC or PCA Church?
As I continue to navigate and learn more about the NAPARC world, I have somewhat of a dilemma. I've been attending a PCA church and a OPC church simultaneously through the summer. I'm looking to become a member of either here in the Twin cities so that I may come under care and begin pursuing ordination. I like both , the PCA church is much larger and have already immersed me in some of the leadership training opportunities at the church. The OPC church is smaller but powerful preaching... Read more
An insightful quote from Pope Francis on Sadness
"We receive so much from the Lord for our enjoyment, that sadness can be a sign of ingratitude. We can get so caught up in ourselves that we are unable to recognize God's gifts."(Pope Francis, Gaudete et Excultate 126) I thought this would be a helpful quote for those of us more prone to sadness and melancholy
Personal theology shifting from my church's
Hello all! I don't know if this is the right section to voice this plea for advice, but as I've never posted here before, I figured I'd give it a shot. In a nutshell, my theology has gone through a reformed transformation in the past year or so. I would say that I lie on the razor's edge between a reformed baptist and a reformed presbyterian, with the topic of paedobaptism being my current mental/intellectual barrier. My family are all unreformed baptists (unrelated, but perhaps helpful for... Read more
Best New Testament Greek Textbook
What is the best New Testament Greek reader for someone that has already studied the grammar of Attic Greek? I am studying Attic Greek (using Shelmerdine) in college and would like to start reading the New Testament. I will finish the Shelmerdine textbook over the next month and start reading Xenophon in my Greek 102 class this semester, but I have noticed the vocabulary needed for the New Testament is different from what I've been learning (which is focused on preparing students to read... John Knox for Armchair Theologians
McDonald, Suzanne. John Knox for Armchair Theologians. Illustrations by Ron Hill. Louisville, KY: Westminster/John Knox Press, 2013. Whereas earlier volumes in this series give a simple overview of a figure’s life and theology, Suzanne McDonald adds another factor: summaries of said figure’s
Thomas Watson
I must confess I have never read Thomas Watson. But with all the excitement over RHB’s release of his complete works, I figure I ought to read something by him. What is something short by him, 20-50 pages (including excerpts from longer works), that I should read to get a taste of his style and where I should prioritize him compared to Knox, Owen, Flavel, Warfield, Edwards, and others who I’m considering diving into more deeply? Thanks.

Your Life Runs Away
Moist summer greens dry into yellows, oranges, and reds. Soon, leaves swirl down in wind that has a bite. Birds fly south overhead. Light softens as the days shorten. Sweaters and fleeces come out. It’s fall. I love it! Yet every autumn pierces me. The year is ending — already. All these changes remind me that I’m ending too. I’m just as brief as a leaf’s final ride to the ground. Life runs away like time. But where does it go?

Spurgeon and Church Unity (1/3)
How ought the godly to respond when the church body, denomination, or union of which they are members becomes overrun by false teaching? Should unity be preserved at all costs, or is there a time to separate? If separation occurs, what are the implications for the unity of the true church? These questions concerning the unity and purity of the church are not straightforward to answer.

The 53 volumes of Christian councils throughout Church history, previously only in Greek and Latin, have just now been AI translated into English at The Faith Received. These are from the standard older edition that goes up to 1902, edited Mansi. When most people think they have read what a

Grumbling and the Goodness of God
“Don’t grumble; don’t complain. Don’t grumble; don’t complain. Don’t grumble! Don’t complain!” By the time I reach the fourth iteration of my little chant, what started as a scowling whisper has turned into a howling proclamation, as I jump up and down and pump my fists through the air. One of my kids is laughing and chanting with me. The other child has eyebrows furrowed in frustration. He has now shifted from grumbling about his dinner to protesting dad’s dancing.
