Is There Really a “Quiet Revival” in the UK? | N.T. Wright

The Bible Society pulled its “Quiet Revival” report over data errors. So is Christianity in Britain actually growing, and is attendance even the right thing to measure? In this clip from Ask NT Wright Anything, Tom (N.T.) Wright and Mike Bird respond to a listener’s question about the quiet revival. Wright weighs the anecdotal signs of renewed interest, from Anglo-Catholic and liberal churches to the newer free churches. He talks about the fading of the new atheism, the Outer Hebrides revival of the late 1940s, and why a real revival should show up in justice, peace, and reconciliation. ▶️ Watch full episode here: https://youtu.be/Lv-PkJjYIYc?si=kMf64rb72Wqy_u6H Subscribe & Support 👉 Support thought-provoking conversations and help keep the show going at www.premierunbelievable.com/geolink/donate💡 🎧 Never miss an episode! Can Christians Serve in the Military? New Creation and the CofE Founder, Henry VIII | Ask NT Wright

Can Christians serve in the military without compromising their faith? What happens when protecting the vulnerable requires the use of lethal force? In this episode of Ask NT Wright Anything, Tom Wright and Mike Bird explore the ethics of military service. Mike reflects on his own experience as a former Australian soldier, including the moral ambiguity and lasting trauma that can accompany military life. Tom draws on Romans 13 to consider why governments may legitimately use force to preserve order and protect the vulnerable — while stressing the importance of conscience, prayer and careful discernment. Next, what is the Bible's deepest image of God's future new creation? Tom identifies two closely connected themes: temple and marriage. From Genesis 1 to Revelation 21–22, both point towards the ultimate joining together of heaven and earth. Finally, was the Church of England really founded because Henry VIII wanted a divorce? Tom explores the complicated origins of Anglicanism, arguing that the English Reformation was already developing through figures such as William Tyndale and John Frith long before Henry's personal and political struggles transformed the religious landscape. Questions in this episode: Q1 02:13 — Can Christians serve in the military? How can Christians reconcile the call to peace with the possible necessity of using force to protect others? Q2 14:38 — What is the Bible's most important image of new creation? Q3 22:26 — Should Anglicans be embarrassed by Henry VIII? Was the English Reformation simply the result of a king's selfish ambitions, or was something much larger already underway?
