On Doug Wilson Redefining Gluttony
https://youtu.be/1WBenRBxoO4 Doug Wilson decided to publish a video on Canon Press last week discussing the topic of gluttony, and Wilson’a definition of gluttony was so convenient that it drew much attention. Throughout Christian tradition, gluttony has been viewed as an inordinate desire for food or habitual excess. This is contrasted with the virtue of self-control.
A Baptist Brought Jesus to Burma. His Spiritual Descendants Bought His Birthplace
Whenever diaspora Burmese Christians gathered in Boston, they would drive up to the 18th-century white colonial-style house on 145 Main Street in Malden, Massachusetts, where Baptist missionary Adoniram Judson was born and lived for the first four and a half years of his life. They’d snap a quick picture in the yard and then get Read more... The post A Baptist Brought Jesus to Burma. His Spiritual Descendants Bought His Birthplace. appeared first on Christianity Today.
Review: ‘Christianity at a Crossroads’
Any number of recent surveys indicate an upheaval in American Christianity. Political scientist Ryan Burge’s work, which has set the pace for several years now, alongside studies by the Pew Research Center and the Public Religion Research Institute, provides a sober assessment of what our congregations, whether historic mainline denominations or nondenominational megachurches, will look Read more... 3 Myths About Christian Nationalism
As a sociologist of religion, I’ve had a front-row seat to the explosive growth of debate over Christian nationalism in America. Early on, I thought the concept was a helpful one. Like many, I was troubled and bewildered by widespread conservative Christian support for Donald Trump, a man whose conduct seemed incongruous with the commitments Read more... Another Troubling Appointment By Pope Leo
Another Troubling Appointment By Pope Leo Another Troubling Appointment By Pope LeoPope Leo XIV’s decision to appoint Archbishop Vittorio Francesco Viola as Archpriest of St Peter’s Basilica will understandably unsettle Catholics attached to the traditional Roman liturgy. A prelate closely associated with the restrictions of the Francis pontificate now assumes responsibility for the basilica to which those Catholics make pilgrimage precisely to express their communion with Peter.

Who Were the Sons of God in Genesis 6? | Difficult Passages #31
Genesis 6 is one of the strangest passages in the Bible. The sons of God see that the daughters of men are beautiful, they take them as wives, and the Nephilim show up on the earth. Then comes the flood. I asked my Talbot colleague Dr. Charlie Trimm to walk me through it. He teaches Old Testament and he’s currently writing a commentary on Exodus, so he’s spent real time in this material. The Gay Social Contagion in America is Starting to Break
Gay people in America really did have a tough run for a long time, particularly in the fifties. People were fired from the government for being gay. The police raided gay bars. Being gay was also considered a mental disorder until the early seventies. It was also not unusual to hear stories of kids being “disowned” by their parents for being gay. Eventually, people started to see this as unfair, and attitudes began to change unevenly in the eighties and nineties.
