What Scholars Found in Early Qur’an Manuscripts May Surprise You
Dr. Daniel Brubaker has spent about a third of his life looking for corrections in early Quran manuscripts. Erasures, insertions, words scraped off and rewritten. He has documented thousands of them. As Dan explains it, the perfect preservation of the Quran came to be understood as the sign that validates the revelation. That makes it very different from the way Christians talk about the New Testament text. We don’t claim a doctrine of perfect preservation. We claim a high degree of accuracy based on the number and earliness of our copies, and we go looking for the original. If the Quran’s preservation is the founding miracle, then corrections in early manuscripts land somewhere much closer to the center. Who Were the Sons of God in Genesis 6? | Difficult Passages #31
Genesis 6 is one of the strangest passages in the Bible. The sons of God see that the daughters of men are beautiful, they take them as wives, and the Nephilim show up on the earth. Then comes the flood. I asked my Talbot colleague Dr. Charlie Trimm to walk me through it. He teaches Old Testament and he’s currently writing a commentary on Exodus, so he’s spent real time in this material.
