Rehabilitating a Classic: Rescuing a Stanley No. 220 Block Plane (Part 1)

Kevin’s 3D Printed Knobs Beat Cam Levers on Router TablesMF
Smart Woodshop FAM member Kevin found a simple, rock-solid solution to replace finicky cam levers on his router table fence. By printing custom knobs on his Bambu 3D printer, Kevin eliminated the struggle of dialling in cam tension and gained massive clamping leverage. These threaded knobs spin on fast, tighten down hard, and lock the fence rock-solid. Repair Your Garage Door Casing with a PVC Plinth
When I first posted this, I got a ton of comments about how the repair didn’t match. I was kind of surprised, so I had to explain this one. But that’s often how it goes. A plinth is a decorative design detail that’s been used at the bottom of door casings for centuries. One of the nice things about using a plinth is that your baseboard and shoe molding can dead-end into it because it’s wider than the casing itself. And in this case, I made it out of PVC, so it won’t rot again. #DIY, #woodworking,#homeimprovement

Vikings Never Painted Bowls This Bright | Magnolia, Turned and Sold
These two Magnolia bowls started with a small bowl found in a Viking settlement in Ireland. It had a rim and that back-cut shoulder, a shape I wanted to try on the lathe. My mother was from Denmark, so Viking history has always pulled me in. The form is true to that old bowl. The finish is not. Vikings were not pouring on color like this. I have learned the hard way that brighter finishes sell, so these got a strong red and a deep purple swirl. Both were gone at the very next craft fair. In this video I turn the pair from Magnolia, shape the rim and back cut, and finish them in color meant to catch a buyer from across the booth. If you turn, sell at shows, or just like a good wood story, leave a comment with the finish color that sells best for you.

The Can That Keeps Your Finish From Going Bad (Charity Auction) #shorts
Bloxygen has been in Marc's finishing cabinet for years. One quick spray of argon pushes the oxygen out of a half-used can of oil finish, varnish, or poly so it doesn't skin over before your next project. Bloxygen is a small, family-run company in San Luis Obispo, California, and they donated six 6-packs to Woodworkers for a Cause 2026. Every dollar goes to The Purple Heart Project, which puts woodworking tools and training in the hands of combat-wounded veterans.
