I would like to upgrade my camera body, but want to double check if I would have to purchase all new lenses?
Hello everyone, I am new to this sub, so hopefully this is the right place to ask this question. My partner wants to get me a new camera body for my B-day because I’ve been using my entry level Canon EOS Rebel SL3 for almost a decade now. I have a few lenses in my collection, but I primarily swap between using my Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 and Canon EF 70-200mm f/4. I want to switch to a full frame mirrorless camera that I could use for the next decade or so. I’m leaning towards the Canon EOS R6 Mark II.
Stop Guessing with Main Light Placement: Choose It with Intention with Lindsay Adler
Where you put your main light is one of the most important decisions in a studio portrait. It sets the entire mood of the image! But how do you decide what's right for your light placement? Anyone who claims there is one correct answer is over simplifying it and too formulaic! I learned early on that the 45 degree rule is a decent starting point, but it doesn't give you intention or real control. In this video I walk you through the framework I use to decide main light placement on every shoot: the questions I ask myself about mood, texture, face shape, distance, and the role the light needs to play in the scene. You'll learn how shadows control drama, how raising the light sculpts the face (while you have to also watch for catchlights), and how distance changes both softness and contrast through the inverse square law. Don't feel confined by a lighting diagram. Sure, its a great place to start but make changes based upon your actual needs and what you want to create! We’ll cover: • How to define the mood of your image first and THEN decide the right light placement • Using light height to sculpt cheekbones and jawline while managing catchlights • The effect of distance on softness, falloff, and contrast through the inverse square law • Why fill light and main light placement always work together • How to adapt your setup when the main light also needs to light the background or bounce into a reflector If you're new to studio lighting, my class Master Studio Lighting (https://lindsayadler.photo/msl) walks you from the fundamentals of exposure and modifiers through this exact decision-making framework. Here is an AI generated Sony medium format system photo based on REAL patent designs!
What you see here is not pure fantasy! I provided Gemini Ai with information about actual patents for Sony medium format cameras and lenses, such as patent JP2017-102189 published in July 2017. I asked Gemini to create an image of the camera and lens based on this data, and here are the results. Help with Pros and Cons of R7 or R6mkii from R10
Hello, I realized my last post was pretty convoluted and wanted to clear things up a bit. My son has shown a strong interest in photography, mainly sports, wildlife and general outdoor photography that interests him. I love the thought of photography as something we can get out of the house and enjoy time together. Currently using the R10 with the following lenses: RF 35 1.8 RF 50 1.8 RF 100-400 5.6-8 Tamron 18-300 3.5-6.3 I want to enable his strong interest in photography as when I was a teenager I loved it.
Halloween pictures at a cat shelter, any suggestions ??
Hi everyone! I volunteer at a cat shelter, and we’re trying to boost our social media presence. I’m an amateur photographer with a keen interest; I have a Canon EOS Rebel T7 with an EF 18-55mm lens, and I’d really appreciate any tips on shooting in small spaces. I usually decorate the cat cages and then try to take the photos. I need to use artificial lighting, and the space has a yellowish tint throughout.

Nikon Z8 ($3,300) vs Sony A7 V ($2,900) — Which would you choose in 2026?
Hey everyone, I'm building my first mirrorless setup for a photo/video business, roughly 50% photography and 50% videography. My work will mainly involve headshots, couples, families, events, and occasional weddings. I personally enjoy wildlife, landscapes, and travel photography. I've been shooting Canon since 2010 and recently used the Sony A7 IV and A7 V at events. Both performed well, especially the A7 V. I was pretty much set on buying it until I saw the Nikon Z8 for $3,300, just $400 more.

The 2010s Were Peak Human Photography. Can We Go Back?
Recently, I gave my designer friend a camera; he then proceeded to show me a few images. "What I lack in understanding of the camera … I made it up in post editing … Lol," he texted me. Make no mistake, the technology of modern mirrorless cameras is exemplary in the hands of established, experienced photographers. Why do I say that? Because they understand their own creative vision so much more than letting the camera decide it for them.
Ep 272 - Landscape Photography & Creative Vision with Saumya Kesurvala
Saumya Kesurvala has spent 15 years as a professional designer and visual storyteller, working across brand identity, editorial and environmental graphics. Landscape photography has become his way of stepping away from screens and reconnecting with the natural world. Growing up in a creative household and attending boarding school close to nature gave him an early appreciation for the outdoor experience itself, not just the images it produces.
Has anyone used Android phone USB tethering apps like CamCon?
Has anyone come across any good apps for android USB tethering and/or live camera controls? I've found an app called CamCon that's in its early stages, but it's got a nice UI and can apply filters on a batch of photos. It's also got pro features (which I haven't tried yet) such as a live camera feed, RAW (or .ARW) exports. Has anyone tried this app? I'm trying to use it to streamline my photo editing process, so that I can edit at a venue for quicker approvals.
Is the R100 actually bad and if so what makes it bad?
I recently won an R100 in a giveaway. I’m not a photographer by any means but I thought since I got a free camera it’d be nice to get into it. I’ve been trying to read up and I’ve seen many negative opinions on the R100. I just wanted to know if it really is a bad camera per se and what exactly is it that makes it so bad. submitted by /u/User018374 [link] [comments]
Any news about the canon Powershot v3?
I read some posts from last year about a potential Canon Powershot v3 being released, being a more photo oriented camera with more zoom and a viewfinder compared to the Canon Powershot V1. I like the look and size of the V1, but the lack of viewfinder is quite a dealbreaker for me and there doesn't seem to be a good alternative on the market with comparable internals (Sony RX100 comes to mind, but has a smaller sensor than the V1). submitted by /u/beanboys_inc [link] [comments]
How on earth do I go about looking normal in photos?
I cannot smile/pose/look normal in photos for the life of me. I’m a female in my twenties and average looking, but all the photos I pose for are awful. I have nice candid photos of me, but any that are staged are horrific, literally from since I was around 5. I look so so awkward, I’ve tried all manner of facial expressions but I always look awful. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for me to be able to get a normal photo. I don’t need it to even be good, I just want to look normal.
