Court appears likely to allow internet suit based on decades-old video privacy law to go forward
The Supreme Court on Wednesday seemed likely to let a lawsuit brought by a Tennessee man alleging that a website owned by entertainment giant Paramount Global violated a 1988 video privacy law when it shared information with Facebook go forward, at least for now. After nearly 90 minutes of oral argument in Salazar v. Paramount Global, the justices appeared poised to agree with Michael Salazar that the law, the Video Privacy Protection Act, applies to any consumer of the products sold by a company that provides videos.

The (Currently) Uneven Intelligence of AI in Comparative Constitutional Law
Our results suggest that LLMs’ usefulness for comparative constitutional data collection depends on what researchers ask them to code. They may be able to produce datasets that simply code constitutional facts, but current versions of LLMs do not perform well when asked to create datasets that require interpreting abstract constitutional concepts or reasoning about law. However, since the models make errors in systematic ways, researchers should always be cautious about treating LLM-generated data as interchangeable with expert-coded data.

No Immunity for Judge Who Locked Children in Holding Cells in Custody Case
From Rockett v. Eighmy, decided today by Eighth Circuit Judge David Stras, joined by Judges Bobby Shepherd and Jane Kelly:
JUST IN: Christa Pike 911 Calls Expose CHAOTIC Execution Fail
911 calls from the evening of Christa Pike's botched execution show the chaos and confusion among first responders as they tried to determine whether the calls coming from the Riverbend Correctional Institution were real or fake. The first caller didn't have the required "code" to activate an EMS response. Even Pike's attorney called 911 from the execution chamber. Pike was scheduled to die on September 30, 2026, for the heinous 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer. Law&Crime's Angenette Levy goes through the newly-released 911 calls in this episode of Crime Fix — a daily show covering the biggest stories in crime.
