  • When God Opens the Door: Senior Year College Decision 🍂

When God Opens the Door: Senior Year College Decision 🍂 When is it too late to decide in high school that you want to go to college? Apparently, not the fall semester of your senior year! ☕ Grab a cup of coffee and let’s talk about it. A few weeks ago, our middle daughter felt called to mission work, and God instantly began opening doors. Within just one week, she was registered for the October ACT, beat the pre-enrollment registration deadlines for 4 colleges, and started applying for scholarships! In today’s chat, I’m sharing how keeping her on a college-prep track since freshman year built the foundation that made this last-minute pivot possible, and how excited Mat and I are as we step into this new territory as first-time college parents. (And yes—after a whole morning of filming, my camera battery finally gave out! Stay tuned for Part 2 and more pre-college updates coming soon!) 🍂 Questions for you in the comments: Have any of your kids made a sudden pivot during high school? How did you navigate the transition? I’d love to hear your stories! Thanks so much for watching and supporting our family! If you enjoyed this video, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe for more homeschool encouragement, high school prep, and everyday life. 🤎 This is us. When Homeschooling Is Hard: Family, Faith & Choosing Joy

How do you keep homeschooling and keep loving your family well when life is extraordinarily hard? Author, speaker, and veteran homeschool mom Mary Lenaburg joins Kaitlin Zara for an honest, hope-filled conversation about homeschooling, parenting a child with profound disabilities, caring for siblings' needs, strengthening a marriage under tremendous pressure, and finding joy even in seasons of suffering. Mary and her husband homeschooled their son, Jonathan, from second grade through high school while raising their daughter, Courtney, who experienced significant medical and developmental challenges throughout her life. Looking back, Mary shares both the beautiful memories and the things she wishes she had done differently. Her advice is refreshingly practical: fall in love with your children and what they love. Get help before you think you need it. Protect your marriage. Let go of the idea that a successful homeschool is measured by completing every page of curriculum. And when a family you love is overwhelmed by medical or special needs, don't simply ask how you can help; show up and do something. Above all, Mary reminds us that joy is not the same thing as having an easy life. It is something deeper, rooted in knowing who we are and trusting God with what we cannot control. Not Every Lesson Has to be Complicated

Simple doesn’t mean shallow. And it definitely doesn’t mean never rigorous. We love direct, thorough instruction for our core subjects, but one of the beauties of homeschool is all the BONUS learning that doesn’t have to be complicated. Learning about fall. Exploring the world around us. Digging into a great book. Following a rabbit trail just because everyone is interested. Sometimes the best question isn’t, “How can I make this lesson more?” but “What would serve this lesson well?” and often hands on oppurtunites make the most impactful learning for these bonus lessons of life.
