Tesla ordered to pay $162,000 for Model X fire after failed ‘vandalism’ defense

Tesla told a Quebec court that car fires are “generally” caused by misuse or vandalism. The judge didn’t buy it, and Tesla Canada now has to cover the C$161,700 an insurer paid out for a Model X that burned in Montreal. An expert report traced the fire to an electrical failure in the dashboard of the 2020 Model X, which was still under Tesla’s warranty. Tesla offered no data to support its theory, and the court called it out for that. more

Solar Production & Energy Consumption Monitoring Without Expensive CT Clamps

I wanted to share what I accomplished using a Raspberry Pi 5 running Home Assistant and my existing smart electricity meter. I have an Enphase solar system, but never had the consumption CT clamps installed in my electrical panel. Instead of paying for additional hardware and installation, I connected my Xcel Energy smart meter (Itron) through its Launchpad program and integrated the data into Home Assistant.

Buzzing from fuse board/consumer when solar output is high — anyone had this?

Hi all, hoping someone has come across this. I recently had solar and a battery installed. The fuse board is in my office, and I’ve noticed a fairly loud buzzing when solar output gets above roughly 5–7 kW. The battery was full, so I think most of the excess was going back to the grid. Today I heard it again, checked the app and saw the panels had gone above 5 kW just as the clouds cleared. The installers have already replaced the new 32 A solar breaker and said they tightened the connections, but the noise has returned.
