UX researcher (HCI MS, public sector and Comp Sci background) pivoting to climate communications or research and comms — grad school or straight to work?
Early 30s currently between roles. Background: BS in Computer Science then ~3 years as a cloud support engineer at AWS. Followed by MS in Information Studies (HCI) → 3 years doing UX research and information architecture at a state government agency (mixed-methods research, website/content governance, analytics). I recently completed an AI for Climate program and will start a climate action training program. I am contemplating two options. I want to leverage my existing skills in Comp Sci and Research to move into an analytical role.
There is more solar and battery capacity stuck in the waiting line to plug into America's power grid than the entire remaining coal fleet combined. It's not that we can't build the cheap power, it's built, we just won't let it connect
Transmission side here. The technology was never the bottleneck, the line is, and projects pay real fees just to hold their spot in it while a lot of them never make it out. Utility side, what's the wait in your region? submitted by /u/Low-Bobcat6409 [link] [comments]
3 Phase Inverter & Heat pump issues
Hi All, This my first post! I’ve tried searching but I couldn’t find a relevant topic. I hope this is the correct place for this thread. Our house has a 3 phase power supply. I’ve also had a PV system installed recently with 9.35 kW PV panels, 25.6 kW HV battery combined with Deye SUN-10K-SG01HP3-EU-AM2 inverter. The incoming grid is passing through a CHNT smart meter and the house and inverter are connected in parallel after the smart meter which is connected to the inverter via RS485... Read more
Hello from West Java, and a question about rain
Hi all, Wahyu here, from Cibinong, a town just south of Jakarta in Indonesia. I've been lurking for a couple of months while I plan a small grid-tie system for our house, maybe 3 kW on the roof. When I'm not reading about inverters I'm usually at the Pakansari stadium down the road watching Garudayaksa FC (https://garudayaksa-fc.id/), which is how I learned to hate afternoon rain even more than I already did. That's actually my question. In the wet season we get heavy rain almost every... Read more
Looking for 4kw or larger grid tie inverter with 2 or more MPPT inputs for AC-coupling to EG4 18KPV UL-1741SA
We have an EG18KPV hybrid inverter, which has 3 MPPT inputs. We have 3 different arrays, connected to one of these inputs each. One of these arrays is an older large array with 39 230W panels arranged into 3 strings of 13 panels each, these 3 strings then put in parallel into PV1 on the 18KPV (rated for up to 25A). Due to shading issues at the ends of the days, I want to separate these strings into 3 different MPPT inputs by adding a smaller (4kw or larger) grid tie inverter that would... Read more
Solar system provides the correct voltage, and the MPPT detects the solar input, but it does not charge the battery
My problem: The integrated charge controller does not charge the battery, even though it detects that solar panels are connected. My setup: Solar panels: - 2 × 100 W solar panels connected in series - Voc: 22.58 V - Vmp: 19.34 V Inverter / all-in-one unit: - Active SSI 10 (older model) - 550 W / 70 V - Integrated MPPT solar charge controller Battery (brand new): - 200 Ah, 12 V LiFePO₄ (lithium iron phosphate) Measured voltage at the solar charge controller:
When you are rarely in town
On Tuesday I was in town for my monthly shopping trip and I had a morning appointment to get my truck aligned. While waiting I wondered down and into a Home Depot as a means of wasting some time. I usually buy stuff online and that being finding a specific thing, so I don't see everyday items and their prices. Looking about as I aisle cruised the prices for just standard stuff it was a real shock. Of course the armed guards at the doors checking everyone as they came out with strip... Read more

Stacking Eco Worthy Rack Batteries
Trying to determine if it is ok to stack three 48V 100Ah Eco Worthy rack batteries on top of each other. These units weigh 103lbs each and that would be a over 200lbs landing on the bottom unit. I have looked thru the manual but see no mention to the max allowed to stack without using a rack. I would prefer to set this new system with the batts flat on top of each other and the book shows the preferred placement for these batteries as flat also. My second choice will be for them on their... Read more
Europe Should Learn From South Korea’s Hydrogen Station Failure
Europe is building a hydrogen-refuelling network before there is a large hydrogen-truck market to support it. Under the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation, hydrogen stations are supposed to be available along major motorway corridors at intervals of no more than 200 kilometres by 2030, with additional coverage at designated urban nodes. ... DC to DC charging
I have a van converted for camping while fishing that runs off roughly 15kw of 12v lithium with solar charging. My question is what is the most efficient or best way to recharge a 12v trolling motor battery that I have used throughout the day? Meaning I can’t use the solar to recharge it overnight for fishing the next day. Feels like using the inverter to run a 120v charger to do it insane. Both the house bank and trolling battery are LiPo4 12v Thanks submitted by /u/Agreeable_Button7385 [link] [comments]
Tesla’s China business is flipping: sales down 12%, exports double
Tesla sold 381,088 cars to Chinese buyers through the first nine months of 2026, down 11.9% from last year, according to CPCA data. Over the same period, Giga Shanghai’s exports more than doubled to 361,972 vehicles. Nearly half of what Tesla builds in China now leaves China. And Beijing just announced it will cut the tax rebate on EV exports next year. more
Webasto Heater Service in CO
We’ve had our new build van for about 2.5 years and the webasto evo40 heater stopped working. The original builders are saying this isn’t covered by warranty and standard for 600 hours of run time. They quoted $1600 to fix it. ($600 parts, $1000 labor). We’ve had a lot of issues with their work so I feel like this is probably a rip off. Curious if anyone can confirm or knows of a good van maintenance shop on the front range in Colorado. submitted by /u/jdsuz [link] [comments]
Vanlife help
My fiancee and I are looking at moving into the vanlife in the next year maybe a little more than that. I need help learning what the van life looks like, how would we make money while living on the road from State to State, we are looking at a Van and would also be ok with a short bus skoolie. Our budget would be about 15k. All help and advice is welcome submitted by /u/Past-Finance3339 [link] [comments]
Severe Grid Overvoltage (270V+) on 5.85 kW On-Grid Solar in AP, India (APCPDCL) – Service wire upgrade vs. Discom transformer tap setting?
I installed a 5.85 kWp rooftop system (10 × 585 W panels, Deye 5 kW single-phase on-grid inverter) under PM Surya Ghar in September. Single-phase supply, net metering with APCPDCL, in a village in Parchur mandal, AP, India. The problem: at midday the voltage at my inverter goes very high when it exports at full power. 4.8 kW / 16.9 A export → 277.6 V 4.98 kW / 17.9 A export → 270.8 V About 2 V rise for every amp exported Street voltage itself seems to drift from about 235 V to 246 V between 11 AM and 1 PM
Weird results when recharging batteries
Seems like every time I go to recharge my batteries I get different results. Some indicate as recharged in 10 minutes but clearly are not. And others will sit for hours on end (over night pictured) and never complete. These are all new batteries (less than 10 cycles). Maybe the charger is just trash? Any advice on a quality charger? submitted by /u/Malfeitor1 [link] [comments]
Tesla pauses Model 3 orders in Canada amid China EV quota
Tesla has stopped taking orders for the Model 3 Premium in Canada, the Shanghai-built trim that brought the electric sedan down to $39,490 CAD. The automaker says it has used up its import quota for Chinese-made EVs and doesn’t expect to reopen orders until March 2027. But the Canadian government’s own tracker tells a different story: 33,069 of the 49,000 permits for China-made EVs in the current quota year are still available. more
