When Production Overtakes Prototyping: Materialise’s Next Phase of AM

In this episode of Additive Snack, Fabian Alefeld sits down with Bart Van Der Schueren, CTO of Materialise, to discuss additive manufacturing's (AM) evolution from a prototyping tool to a true production technology. Bart shares his journey into AM through early stereolithography research at KU Leuven and reflects on Materialise's origins as a small service bureau that quickly realized it needed its own software to automate data preparation and workflows.

  • Rough bottom print

Hey FMP community, I printed out a stand for my wife with the 2 color PLA Silk and had initially noticed the 1st layer was messed up (2nd pic). Then when it got to the top, it was all bad in that area. I thought it was a dirty plate, even after I cleaned it, and tried again, and it still came out with that weird messed up area on the 1st layer (3rd pic). So I printed an entire sheet on the print bed and noticed as I'm towards the glass side or vortex side, it is very rough., while the back of the printer it is a good smooth full contact print.

    Spooky printer cam footage

Can anyone guess what this worm looking thing moving in the footage is? I suspect its a piece of hair or dust on the camera, but it's movement resembles a living organism, almost like some bacteria. It's creeping me out a little bit. I will check later when I'm back home and give an update, but in the meantime - any theories? submitted by /u/jovo-graphics [link] [comments]

    SD Card / Marlin Question

Hi so kinda computer illiterate but if I change the code on my SD in my computer and plug the sd card into my printer, it’ll change the firmware on the printer right? I’m tryna run Octoprint but it says my firmware “disabled host action commands” so I found a YT video to fix that. Also side question, how do I find all the info for the preconfig Ender-3 stuff for Marlin? Like the bed ends specs, etc. Currently don’t have a screen. I’ve tried to Google it… submitted by /u/WonderMoon1 [link] [comments]

My smallest print in my five years if printing

And it's STILL oversized 😭 I am working on a N-Scale ( [1/160] model of the old abandoned train station platforms by me. This one single antique lamp is still in place at one of them and is what initially drew my interest to the stations. I had to upscale it from my initial accurate design to even be able to print. submitted by /u/LoganPine [link] [comments]

  • [US, NJ] Looking to commission someone to make "minis" of a couple for their wedding

A friend of mine is having her wedding in a few weeks. Both are into gaming/RPGs, and are looking to have minis made of their "characters" (there's reference artwork). They're looking at HeroForge, but are hoping to get something a bit more customized. Not expecting anyone to do custom work for free, just hoping to find a reasonable rate. They're thinking the standard 30ish mm mini, but I'd like to get something a touch larger, maybe around 2", so it looks nicer for their wedding. submitted by /u/GamersPlane [link] [comments]

  • First long print and it failed at roughly 80%. Is this is classic case of wet filament or is it something else?

Thanks for all the help guys :) I'm currently at work so I won't really be able to respond. I'll give an update, but the problem evolved to a clogged nozzle :/ I suspect the people who said that the infill was the problem were right. But yeah I'll have to deal with the clog first Post from yesterday The right side looks weirdly spikey to me idk if that's your usual stringing or not. First layer seemed to be fine.
